Open Thread

We're long overdue for a new thread. And, since I can't think of anything witty or trenchant to post, it's just a plain ol' open thread.

Hi listener,

Glad to hear your son has found a good job locally. That must be a load off your mind. Not to mention a body out of your painting space *grin*

I found something that might be of help in the picture uploading department, though it still seems to deal with posts rathr than comments.

I'm not doing much writing these days. Need to get a lot of writing done for DAFD and, as always, I've got several pprojects in various states of incompletion. But, I donno. I'm so tired all the time, it's very hard to work.

*scratches head* I posted one of my stories in progress on another blog service blog, think it's called Live Journal. Anyway, if anybody's interested, here's the llink:

BTW did you mean to post the same message twice? Guess there are gremlins here too.

Hmmm, you're too fast for me, listener. *smile* Glad you got that dupplicate poste before it propogated further.

Going to check the last thread.

So how about if I send you a photo or two and sometime when you need something to dress up a new thread, you can use it?

Sure, listener, that would be swell. But, you know, you can start new threads here too. Remember, all Indians and no chiefs? LOL

Click the big orange "B" for Blogger in the upper lefthand coorner of the blog front page. That takes you to your Blogger Dashboard. There you'll see several choices, including "Create." Select this, and fill in the form fields with your title and body respectively. Apparently, there is a button or link labeled "Image." Yours truly has somehow managed not to notice this feature heretofore; however, the help system says it's there. Click this button and then click the "browse" button to select an image from your computer to upload.

I don't have any images to try this with, but I have been contemplating placing a picture of Howard in the sidebar. That's strictly HTML work, that I ought to be able to manage all right.

Phew! What a hastle! Because of a mailer glitch, nearly all my new mail downloaded in duplicate. Took forever to illiminate the duplicates and the spam. However, all seems to be sorted out at last.

Which means, listener, I've received your pics. Thanks very much. I'll keep them in trust for use here on the blog.

i'm trying to write 20 new songs, most of which will comprise a new record. it'll probably take me a while. sometimes 2 or 3 come in a day, and other times its a couple of weeks to get one.

Hi mprov,

You need to write twenty songs? Yikes!!! I can't set out to write a song. A song occasionally strikes, but it's very hard to work with music, for me at least. I have a few melodies with no lyrics, and a whole bunch of fragments, but not many completed songs. I can't imagine having to write twenty!!! What kind of deadline are you looking at?

As to run on sentences, don't worry about it. LOL That happens to everybody sometimes. I call it dyarea(sp?) of the pen. Not to worry.

I don't know why links don't show up as live here. I thought at first they did, but apparently they don't.

mprov, take a gander at the links list.

catreona,

thanks for linking there. there's not really anything there yet, but i'll figure it out sooner or later.

the live links might be a preference on the template? i'll look later.

20 songs really aren't that many. schubert wrote more than 1,000 in less than 10 years. the idea is to keep doing something until it begins to make sense? lol. then write lyrics. that's my usual method, but i also sometimes write the lyrics first and then make music fit them. sometimes i start with a concept, doodle on the guitar unitl i find something that feels right, and then start to work it out. i never go the I IV V I method or try to figure it out by using theory or notational/chordal method. sometimes i find my fingers on the neck doing what feels right and i don't even care what chord i'm playing-it just works. good enough huh?

Yeah, definitely good enough. It's funny. Often words and music come in tandom for me, and I find it slightly disturbing when I have music but no words. Of course, some melodies don't have words that go with them, and of course the great majority of my poems/lyrics don't have associated music. For the most part, though, for me music comes with words.

Though I studied theory, it is not at all helpful to mee when writing or arranging. I know what sounds right, and damn the theory. Of course, I'm not very good at arranging. *sigh* The point still holds, though. I used to worry about what kinds of chords I was using, and were they in the right progressions etc. But, I soon found that what sounds right is much more important than which chord is *supposed* to follow which other.

Good night.
