Tim Walz, teacher, coach, veteran & governor is the antidote to Trump's ...

  1. It's a most peculiar sensation to realize that the next president of the United States is ten months younger than I am.

I knew V.P. Harris was born in October of 1964, but the enormity of that fact together with just exactly who she is only struck me this evening. I guess the torch really has passed.

I'm so accustomed to leaders, most if not all of the people in public life I admire being older than myself - much older, like old enough to be my parents - that I'm rather staggered at the thought that we're in charge now. I'm the older generation, the stuffy grownup.

I suppose it's a particular jolt since I don't have children of my own; so, I've been able largely to ignore the passage of time. After all, I don't feel like one imagines it feels to be sixty, a little old gray-haired lady. I feel the same as I've always felt. But now, suddenly, I've become them instead of us.

I mock my sister, who is eleven years younger than myself, for constantly lamenting that she doesn't want to be a grownup. I wonder now if maybe she might have a point. It is uncomfortable and a little scary.
